SweatCut is a video editor for your Mac. This policy says what the app, SweatCut Cloud and this website collect about you, why, and which companies handle it for us.

Who we are

Trine Point LLC, a company in the United States, makes SweatCut and runs sweatcut.com. We are responsible for the personal data this policy describes. SweatCut Cloud is our online service behind the app: it handles sign-in, subscriptions, the free trial and auto-edit.

For anything about your data, email hello@sweatcut.com.

Your footage stays on your Mac

SweatCut opens your videos from your Mac and exports them there. Your footage, your exported videos and your workouts stay on your Mac, and we never upload them. Auto-edit is the only feature that sends anything from a workout, described below.

What we collect and why

Your account

Your account is your email address. We use it to sign you in: each sign-in code is emailed to you. We keep an address from the moment a code is sent to it, even if the code is never entered. We also keep a record of each sign-in and when it was last used.

Your subscription

Lemon Squeezy sells SweatCut's tiers as the merchant of record, so your card and billing details go to them and never to us. When you open checkout from the app, SweatCut fills in the email address you signed in with.

Lemon Squeezy tells us the email address each tier was bought with, and the tier goes to the account with that address. If there isn't one, we make one. We keep the tier, whether it is active, its dates, and the numbers Lemon Squeezy uses for your subscription and for you as its customer.

What you use

To count your tier's allowances, we keep a record of what you use:

  • when each export was made
  • when you used the free trial
  • the credits you are given and spend
  • what each auto-edit run cost, which follows the footage's length

Your Mac's ID

SweatCut sends a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID with every request to SweatCut Cloud, whether you are signed in or not. A one-way hash is a code made from the ID that cannot be turned back into it. We store it when the free trial is used on that Mac, so that each Mac gets one free trial. For the same reason, it is kept after your account is deleted, for as long as SweatCut offers a free trial.

Auto-edit

When you run auto-edit, SweatCut sends information about the workout through SweatCut Cloud to Anthropic. The info is used to analyze the video to provide the auto-edit functionality. Your email address and account information are not sent to Anthropic. SweatCut Cloud holds what is sent only while the run lasts, and deletes it within an hour.

Usage data

The app sends usage data to PostHog, in the United States: crash reports, named moments in the app (such as an export finishing), and which screen is open. We use it to find and fix problems and to see which parts of SweatCut get used.

  • Before you sign in, it carries a random tag. Signing in links what that tag sent to your account ID, and signing out starts a new tag.
  • It carries a rough location, your country and city, worked out from your internet address, which PostHog then discards.
  • It can include workout lengths rounded to the minute, the choices you make in the app, counts and timings.
  • It never includes anything you type, pictures, file names, or the details of a video file.

Usage data starts on. You can switch it off at any time in Settings › General › Usage data.

This website

sweatcut.com uses PostHog too. For each visit it records:

  • the pages you visit and the site that sent you
  • a recording of the visit, with anything typed hidden
  • every click, and heatmaps of clicks, mouse movement and scrolling
  • your browser, your kind of device and how fast the pages load
  • a rough location, worked out from your internet address as with usage data

We use it to see how people find SweatCut and what they look at. PostHog keeps track of your visit with a cookie, described under Cookies.

Updates

The app checks sweatcutassets.com, which Cloudflare serves, for new versions. It checks every few hours while Settings › Updates › Update automatically is on, and whenever you choose Check for updates. Each check carries your internet address, as any web request does, and a random ID the app made when it was installed. That ID is not linked to you or your account.

Your internet address

Vercel hosts SweatCut Cloud and this website, so like any host it sees the internet address (IP address) of every request.

Emails you send us

If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can answer it.

Our legal basis

  • To provide SweatCut to you, under our agreement with you: your account and sign-ins, your subscription, what you use, and auto-edit.
  • Our legitimate interest in one free trial per Mac: your Mac's ID.
  • Our legitimate interest in keeping SweatCut working and making it better: usage data and this website's analytics. They don't rest on your consent, which is why usage data starts on instead of asking first. You can object at any time: switch Usage data off, and on this website, block PostHog, which most ad blockers do.
  • The law, when it requires us to keep or share something.

Companies that receive your data

These companies handle your data for us. All of them are based in the United States.

CompanyWhat it receivesWhy
SupabaseYour email address, your sign-ins, your subscription, what you use, your auto-edit results, your Mac's ID once the free trial is used on it, and the information auto-edit sends, while a run lasts. It is SweatCut Cloud's database, where your account is kept.
VercelEvery request to SweatCut Cloud and to this website, with its internet address. It hosts SweatCut Cloud and this website.
ResendYour email address and each sign-in code.It sends the sign-in emails.
Lemon SqueezyYour email address, and the card and billing details you give them at checkout. It sells you your tier, as the merchant of record.
AnthropicInformation about a workout, each time you run auto-edit.It analyzes the video for auto-edit.
PostHogUsage data from the app, and visits to this website. It shows us what goes wrong and which parts get used.
CloudflareThe app's checks for updates, with the app's random ID and your internet address. It serves SweatCut's updates.

We don't sell or share your data with third parties. The only exception is a public authority, when the law requires it.

Your rights and deleting your data

You can ask us for a copy of your data, in a file you can take to another service. You can also ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Email hello@sweatcut.com from the address on your account and we'll do it for you. We answer within a month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Nothing about you is decided automatically in a way that has legal effects on you.

When we delete your account, we delete everything kept with it: your sign-ins, our record of your subscription, what you used, your auto-edit results, and your usage data in PostHog. Your Mac's ID is kept for as long as SweatCut offers a free trial, so a new account on the same Mac cannot claim a second one.

Lemon Squeezy keeps its own records of your payments. Logs of sign-ins and sign-in emails, kept by Supabase and Resend, may still hold your email address after that.

Children

SweatCut is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us theirs, email us and we'll delete it.

Cookies

This website sets one cookie, from PostHog, for the analytics described under This website. It shows no cookie banner. We don't use cookies for advertising.

PostHog keeps the same details, and its own settings, in your browser's storage as well. You can delete or block the cookie in your browser's settings, and the website works the same without it. To stop the analytics as well, block PostHog, which most ad blockers do.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we'll post the new one here and update the date at the top.
